We woke up early and practically ran the four miles to Winding Stair Gap where we’d catch the free shuttle into Franklin. The shuttle was a free service provided by the county commissioner. He was a local business owner who believed that the best way to run a business is by treating people right and by providing free services to hikers and visitors. He provided a free shuttle 11 miles to Franklin, to motels in town and different trail heads. Later in the afternoon he picked us back up and took us to the grocery store, local outfitter and the post office. The trip into Franklin allowed us the opportunity to resupply, shower, do laundry and eat real food. Thank you Franklin!
