It rained all night and all day. The rain wasn’t hard in the morning but was really consistent throughout the day. We walked along the Virginia Creeper Trail in the morning, a bike trail that stretches along an old railroad. In the afternoon we climbed Buzzard Rock on Whitetop Mountain. By that point our clothes had become saturated and the wind made hiking extremely cold. On top of Whitetop Mountain we hit high winds, hail and freezing rain. At the bottom of the mountain we found a concrete bathroom where we took refuge from the wind with Peep Show. When we got up the courage, we hiked up the last four miles to Mount Rogers and the Thomas Knob Shelter. We hiked 18.6 miles for the day.
