5/8 Day 52

Today we started our section in Shenandoah National Park. We got a hitch quickly from a man and his dog. We crossed Skyline Drive for the first time at McCormick Gap. It rained until lunch when we stopped at Calf Mountain Shelter. We crossed Skyline Drive nine times today but missed all of the overlooks because of foggy conditions. We made it to Blackrock Hut earlier than expected but found a good tenting spot near the shelter. The crowd at this shelter was the biggest we’d seen since our first night at Hawk Mountain Shelter in Georgia. There were close to 20 hikers, some going northbound, some southbound and some section hiking. We hiked 20 miles total.
