Today was our first day since Virginia where we would hike in rain. It poured all day long but it didn’t seem to matter much as we crossed the half way marker! The wooden sign was remade last year and the old sign was retired to the AT Museum. Most of the trail today was like river walking with 3-6 inches of standing water. We planned to complete the famous half-gallon challenge at Pine Grove Furnace State Park. To belong to the “half-gallon club” you have to eat an entire half-gallon of ice cream to mark the half way point. Unfortunately for us, the store was only open on weekends until Memorial Day! So we took our ache-free bellies and hiked to Tagg Run Shelter for the night. We hiked 24.5 miles for the day.
