6/5 Day 80

We hiked all day in wet socks and shoes. In the morning we passed the “secret shelter”, a privately owned cabin with showers and privy. We stopped in Unionville to get groceries, our first stop into New York. We hiked the Walkill Nature Reserve perimeter and stopped at Pochuck Mountain shelter for lunch. We hiked on a boardwalk over a swamp for close to a mile and crossed Pochuck Creek suspension bridge. We stopped at Heaven Hill Farm for ice cream. After a long break, we hiked up Wawayanda Mountain. On top of the mountain we met a couple who was trying to find a spot to view Venus crossing in front of the sun. For the next few miles, until we reached Wawayanda Shelter, we attempted to see the phenomena. We hiked 23.9 miles for the day.
