First day in Massachusetts was a beautiful one. We woke up to sunshine, cool weather and had beautiful views of MA on our hike down to Great Barrington. We hadn’t planned for a stop in town but while taking a break at the road, a former thru hiker offered us a ride. He had recently moved to Great Barrington and he and his girlfriend, who also thru hiked, were offering their home to current hikers. We took a break at their home and he offered to drive us by the grocery store on our way back to the trailhead. After our break in Great Barrington we climbed June Mountain, East Mountain, hiked through Beartown State Forest and across the Ledges. We arrived at the shelter we had planned for early enough to push on to the next so we could meet back up with some hikers we hadn’t seen in a few weeks. We camped at Mt. Wilcox North Shelter for the night, enjoyed a fire and catching up. We hiked 21.5 miles.
