7/6 Day 111

We woke up to clear skies and beautiful sunrise today! Today was Joe’s 24th birthday and the hutmaster at Lake of the Clouds called him up in the middle of breakfast and had all guests and croo sing him happy birthday. Our first hike of the day was up over the summit of Mt. Washington which stands at 6,288 ft. We hiked over extra side trails to go up and over both Mt. Clay and Mt. Jefferson. We skirted around the summit of Mt. Adams and took a break at Madison Springs Hut before our long descent down Mt. Madison. The northern presidential range offered incredible hiking with dramatic scenery. The descent from Madison was exhausting but we made it to Pinkham Notch Visitor Center before they closed and were able to open Joe’s birthday resupply box on his actual birthday. We stealth camped just north of Pinkham and hiked a total of 14.8 miles for the day.
